New ski mountaineering series in USA

COSMIC seriesCOSMIC series
Dear friends of skiing,
I've started a ski mountaineering series with five races, fun courses and good prizes - the COSMIC series (Colorado Ski Mountaineering Cup). If this is new to you it goes like this: skin up, remove skins, ski powder, put your skins back on, ski up to another run, ski down and repeat. We try and include the steeper skiing and the most interesting skinning terrain. The whole course is flagged up and down. It's similar to doing a 2.5 hour mountain bike race.

If the skiing sounds good but not the racing, come out for the skiing and support your friends. (And I might put you to work helping us out on the course...) This sport is about where mountain bike racing was in 1990 - pretty loose and fun, just getting started. We have a $5,000 cash prize list as well as merchandise prizes and a raffle.

The first race is coming up January 13th at Sunlight Mt. in Glenwood Springs. On January 20th it's the Winter Wild from Snowmass to Buttermilk. Info is attached and at:

If you don't have gear, give me a call or come raid the ski closet - it'll be wide open this winter. The mandatory gear is a helmet, beacon, shovel and a probe. Also, Andrew McLean and I are doing a movie/slideshow presentation on randonee skiing at Neptune in Boulder at 8 pm on Thursday night, January 4th if you'd like to see what uphill skiing in lycra (optional) looks like.

Please forward the attached info COSMIC info to anyone you know who loves skiing and is looking for something a little different. It's going be a lot of fun - I hope to see you at the races.

Happy Holidays,

Pete Swenson
